With the third phase of lockdown to end on 17th May, the government is already in discussion with the airlines to start scheduling commercial flights post 17th. As confirmed to CNN-News 18 by top government authorities, airline services will start operating in a phased manner after lockdown 3; domestic flights followed by the international ones.

While the government is emphasizing on maintaining social distancing norms in flights by leaving one seat vacant, the airline’s officials are worried that this may increase the price burden on passengers.

Airlines and government officials are still discussing on this matter so as to reduce the price overload on passengers without compromising on their health and security.

With the consent of the prime minister still pending, final decisions are yet to be taken by the higher officials; both of the airlines and government.

It was earlier decided that Delhi airport will initially allow passengers from Terminal 3 and entry gates, self-check-in machines and check-in bays will be allocated to respective airlines to prevent over overcrowding of passengers.

According to a plan by GMR group-led Delhi International Airport Ltd., all baggage will be screened through ‘ultraviolet disinfection tunnels’ and that sufficient shops of food and beverages will be opened in the airport to avoid overcrowding at one place.

The plan further stated that IndiGo and Vistara passengers will use gate number 1 and 2 to enter the airport. The check-in rows of A, B and C are allocated to these two airlines.

All other domestic airline passengers must avail gate number 5 and row H to continue with a smooth check-in process.

In addition, the plan mentioned that all international flight passengers shall enter the airport through gate numbers 6, 7 and 8. Rows J, K, L and M at Terminal 3 will serve as the check-in points of all these passengers.
