Nabadwip is a city in the district of Nadia which is situated in the Indian state of west Bengal area. This place is considered as one of the most sacred places in this state. In Bengali the word nabadwip means 9 islands. The names of the islands are as follows: Simantadwip, Koladwip, Modadrumwip, Madhyadwip, Godrumdwip, Ritudwip, Jahnudwip, Antardwip and Rudradwip. Every year festivals like Nabadwip-mandala Parikrama is held here and holidays like Dol Jatra, Gaura purnima and Rash purnima are also celebrated in this holy place. The capital of Ballal Sen is Nabadwip. Pilgrims adhering to gaudiya vaishnavism come to Nabadwip every year from all around the world.

The place has an average height of 46 feet and is located near the rivers Bhagirathi and Jalangi. According to the census the population of the state, this place consists of 175,474 people and out of that 84,664 are female and 90.810 are male. There are lots of popular schools and colleges in the area of Nabadwip. The University of Kalyani and Nabadwip Vidyasagar College are the two most important places for continuing higher studies. The place is situated at 105 km from Howrah. The literacy percentage of Nabadwip is comparatively higher than the average literacy percentage.
