Trivandrum has many interesting places to visit are as follows – Kovalam Beach, Palace Museum, Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Napier Museum, Natural History Museum, Zoological Garden, Sri Chitra Art Gallery, Science and Technology Museum, Planetarium, Veli Tourist Village, Padamanabhapuram Palace, Akulum Boat Club, Kerala Legislative Assembly, Shangumugham Beach, Ganapathy Temple, CVN Kalari Sangam, Ponmudi, Neyyar Dam etc.
Trivandrum is also known as Thiruvananthpuram. Trivandrum is the capital of Kerala. Trivandrum is situated on the west coast. It is referred as the Evergreen City Of India by Mahatma Gandhi. Trivandrum is the most populous and largest city of Kerala. Trivandrum is the IT hub of Kerala. Trivandrum has ranked as the best city in Kerala. This city has many state and central government offices.
Trivandrum is also an academic hub. There are many educational institutes like as – University Of Kerala, Indian Institute Of Space Science And Technology, Center For Development Studies, Indian Institute Of Information Technology And Management etc.
Kovalam Beach : –
Kovalam is around sixteen kilometer away from Trivandrum. Kovalam Beach is internationally renowned and a wonderful beach. It is the loveliest beach in the world. Coconut trees give the ravishing look to Kovalam Beach. Kovalam Beach is a dream for tourists. If you are tired of sunbathing and swimming then you can take a look at cloth shops, handicrafts and jewelry etc. Seafood is also there including lobster on beach side restaurants.Palace Museum : – Puthen Maliga Palace Museum is housed in the palace of maharajahs. Its timing is – 8.30 am to 12.30 pm and 3.00 pm to 5.30 pm. and the entry fee is five rupees only.
Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple : –
Sri Padamanabhaswamy temple is the most interesting temple of Trivandrum. This temple is open only for Hindus and they must wear sari or dhoti. The Sri Padamanabhaswamy temple is devoted to Lord Vishnu.Science and Technology Museum : – The Science and Technology Museum is around 100 meters away from Mascot Hotel. Museum timing is 10.00 am to 5.00 pm daily. Entry fee is 2 Rs. Only.
Napier Museum : –
Napier Museum is housed in a Keralan styled building. Napier Museum shows – historical ornaments, ivory carvings, assortment of bronzes, temple carts and figures of Kathakali dancers.Natural History Museum : – The Natural History Museum rooms an ethnographic collection. And its house built in Keralan style.
Zoological Garden : –
Zoological garden is the best designed in Asia. Lakes, Woodland, well maintained lawns etc. The zoo opens Tuesday to Saturday and timing is 9.00 am to 5.15 pm. Entry fee is four rupees only. But there are any additional charges for a camera five rupees and for a video camera you will be charged two hundred fifty rupees.Sri Chitra Art Gallery : – Sri Chitra Art Gallery keeps the paintings of Mughal, Rajput and Tanjore schools and works from Japan, China and Tibet. Many modern paintings are also there like as – Nicholas Roerich, Ravi Varma and Svetoslav.
Planetarium : – Daily in the noon Planetarium shows a 40 minute show in English. The entry fee is Rs. 10 only. Closed on Monday.
Veli Tourist Village : –
Veli Tourist Village is surrounded by the Arabian Sea and Veli lagoon. Veli is a popular picnic and tourist spot, Vile Village has water front park, children’s park, water sports, floating bridge, garden, restaurant etc. The vile tourist village is around eight kilometers away from the city. Timings – 10.00 am to 8.30 pm.Koyikkal Palace : Located at a distance of 18 kilometers from Trivandrum, Koyikkal is ancient palace and dates back to the 15th century.
Vizhinjam : The place used to be a popular site for the Portuguese and Dutch traders. It is located south of Kovalam beach and represents a modern fishing harbour.
Akkulam Boat Club :
Akkulam backwater is an extension of the well known Veli Lake. Located just ten kilometers from Thampanoor the heart centre of Thiruvananthapuram city. All sorts of boats are available for the entertainment of the tourists at very affordable prices.Varkala beach of Trivandrum :
Varkala beach is a seaside resort located 54 km from Trivandrum. The beach has mineral springs that rise in a splendid way from the coasts. It is also an important pilgrimage centre of the Hindus. 2000-year-old Janardhana Swami temple is a major attraction here that attracts many tourists.climate
The Trivandrum’s climate is between of tropical monsoon and tropical savanna. Temperature in summer is maximum – 39 °C and in winter minimum is 15 °C. Trivandrum is the first city in the path of south – west monsoon and gets first rain in June. Heavy rainfall and is around 1700 mm.
