Nagarjuna Sagar located in Andhra Pradesh is well known for its famous and important Buddhist Sites and Nagarjuna Sagar dam. This beautiful town of Nagarjuna Sagar is located 150 km away from Hyderabad and located between the cities of Guntur and Hyderabad. This city is a beautiful travel destination. This city is also known by the name of Vijayapuri because of several victories in ancient times. Nagarjuna Sagar city is divided into three major settlements known as Vijayapuri, Pylon and Hill colony. Dam of Nagarjuna Sagar is very famous as it is one of the largest dams of Asia. It is also one of the earliest hydro-electric projects of India. Tourist Attractions in Nagarjuna Sagar

Nagarjuna Sagar Dam :

This dam is a famous dam of India as it is one of the largest dams of Asia. Nagarjunasagar dam, which was completed in 1966, is 124 metres high and 1 km long, and has 26 crest gates. This is a multipurpose project built on the river Krishna near the Nandikonda village, Peddavoora Mandal and Nalgonda District. Nagarjunasagar’s reservoir is also considered the largest man-made lake in the world. Cruise up to Srisailam offers a spectacular view of the Nallamala forests on the either side of the River Krishna.

The dam is also known for being one of the earliest irrigation and hydro-electric projects in India and boasts of one of the largest networks of canal systems in the world. The dam provides irrigation water to the Nalgonda District, Prakasam District, Khammam District, and Guntur District. A lake emerges from just behind the dam, which is one of the largest artificial lakes in the nation.

Nagarjuna Konda :

This exotic island emerges out of the artificial lake of the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam. There is a famous and old Buddhist Museum at Nagarjuna Konda which has a good collection of several Buddhist relics and structures. At the time of construction of Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, these things were excavated. Most of the remains are dated back to the 3rd century AD.

Ethipotala Waterfall :

Ethipotala Waterfall is a beautiful and famous tourist attraction of the city. This place is a famous holiday spot for the locals. Ethipotala waterfall is located around 15 miles away from Nagarjuna Sagar and lies on the way to Macherla. For stay there are some of the best guest houses there.

Rajiv Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary :

Rajiv Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most famous wildlife sanctuaries of India. This wildlife sanctuary boasts of a Project Tiger Reserve. There are several famous and unique varieties of animals, birds and reptiles in this sanctuary. Every year thousands of visitors come here and enjoy their vacations. Staying is also not a big problem here as there are several hotels there in the sanctuary.

Canals : This is a most important project which benefits several farmers in the district of Prakasam, Guntur, Krishna, Nalgonda and Khammam. Right canal is known as Jawahar Canal and left canal is known as Lalbahadur Shastri canal. Around 52 villages take the benefit from these canals.

How to Reach Nagarjuna Sagar
By Air : Hyderabad is the nearest International airport to Nagarjuna Sagar which is located 150 km away from Hyderabad.

By Rail : The nearest railway station to Nagarjun Sagar is at Macherla, about 24 km. To reach here you can also choose local transport. This station is well connected with almost all the famous and major cities of South India.

By Road : Nagarjuna Sagar is well connected through roads with almost all the famous cities of Andhra Pradesh like Hyderabad, Guntur and Vijayawada. Regular bus and private taxi services are available from here.
