  1. Rajasthan

If you have come to India or not been to this state before you must visit it. A large part of the Thar Desert falls within the area of this state. Sand dunes and colourfully dressed people characterize the countryside of this state. It has some of the most historically famous monuments, mainly forts and world-famous cities like Jaisalmer, Jaipur, Udaipur, etc. Each and every city has a famous fort, and these are really worth visiting. Rajasthan is a large state so it will take you some time to cover it in its entirety. But while you are there, do make sure that you visit Samdhani, a desert camp, a few kilometres away from Jaisalmer. There are many historical monuments to see in Delhi, like the Qutab Minar, the Red Fort, Lotus Temple, Humayun’s Tomb, etc. If you are in Delhi, then you are very near to the city of Agra. Just book a car or bus or simply take a train to Agra from Delhi to witness the beauty of the Taj Mahal with your own eyes. The Agra Fort is also a must watch. Your tour of North India will never be complete until and unless you have visited Benaras. Located just on the banks of the Ganges, this holy city is said to be more than thousand years old. It is a photographer’s joy to wade through the Benaras alleys. The evening arati or offering on the banks of the river is mesmerizing with lights and music. Once in West Bengal, a must visit place would be Kolkata. Plan your trip in such a way that you end up in Kolkata sometime between September and October since the weather remains great at this time and on top of that it is the time for Durga Puja! The Kolkata Ghats in the wee hours of the morning also help in weaving a beautiful memory of the cultural capital of India.
