Jaipur City Guide – Jaipur Travel Attractions

The Indian city of Jaipur also called as Pink city is the capital of Rajasthan. The city was founded by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh in 1727. It is one of the best planned cities of India. This was the first city to be panned as per the Indian Vastu Shastra, which is believed to bring comfort and wealth to the people residing in it. Located in the desert area the city has hot summers, bitterly cold winters. The temperatures range from 5 °C during winters to about 45 °C during the summer season. During the winters the city is covered by dense fog. Winter season is the best time to visit Jaipur. The city’s some of the often visited locations are briefed in the sections below.

Jantar Mantar

Jantar Mantar is the famous observatory built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh. It has a good collection of architectural astronomical instruments. The amazing fact of this observatory is that its instruments made of stone provide accurate astronomical information even today. The observatory has 14 major geometric devices that are used to measure time, foresee eclipses, track stars, ascertain the declination of planets, and determine the celestial altitudes. This observatory is one of the main attractions for the tourists visiting Jaipur.

Amber Fort

Amber fort is the one time capital of the Kachhwaha clan. It is built with white marble and red sand stone. The Maotha Lake in the front of the fort provides a mirror image of the fort making it a beautiful illusion. With a rough exterior and a smooth interior, the fort captivates the every visitor with its artistic quality and exhibits the dexterity of ancient artists. Tourists are astonished by the intricate carvings on the walls and ceilings of the fort. The astounding part of this tourist spot is the royal elephant ride around the fort.

The City Palace

One of the greatest tourist attractions of Jaipur is the city palace, which is a major landmark of the city.  The city palace complex has fascinating buildings, courtyards, and gardens. Of the several buildings in the palace complex, a few of them like the Chandra Mahal, Mubarak Mahal, Maharani’s Palace, Shri Govind Dev Temple, and the City Palace Museum are a great attraction to the tourists.

Albert Museum

This museum was built by Colonel Sir Swinton Jacob in 1876 to greet King Edward VII as Prince of Wales on his visit to India. It is located at the center of Ram Niwas Bagh gardens in Jaipur. A good number of rare articles on its display include textiles, carpets, paintings, metal and wood crafts, pottery, arms and weapons, flora and fauna of the state, toys, dolls, and even an Egyptian mummy of the Ptolemaic Epoch.

Birla temple Jaipur

The Birla temple or Laxmi Narayan temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi and it is one of the major attractions of Jaipur-the pink city. This temple is built by the famous business family of Birlas at the foot of Moti Dungri Fort. The land was given to Birlas by a Maharaja as a token sum of just one rupee. There are many temples built across the country by the Birlas.

In1988 this temple was constructed. The temple consists of 3 domes which represents varied approaches to religion, it reflects secular ethos of the country. The architectural beauty is worth appealing and appreciating. The temple is full with the devotees throughout the day. In special occasion or festival the crowd just multiplies. You will find guides in both Hindi and English language so that it becomes easy for tourists to understand the significance of Hinduism and the temple.

The temple is made up of white marble and is a pious worship place for Hindus. Outside the temple many scriptures on numerous themes of mythology and images of saints from different religion like Christ, Buddha, Zarathustra and Confucius represents the secular nature of the temple.

Transport and Stay

The Jaipur Airport located in the satellite town of Sanganer provides services to Muscat, Sarjah, Bangkok, and Dubai. Jaipur is also well connected with domestic air links to most major cities of India. Jaipur has the broad gauge network to cities like Agra, Delhi, Gwalior, Mumbai, Howrah, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mysore, Bangalore, Lucknow, Kanpur etc. It also has meter gauge services that ply within the state of Rajasthan. Two major national high ways pass through the city of Jaipur that links Delhi and Mumbai. The city is also connected other parts of the state with well-laid roads.
