Patnitop, situated near Mata Vaishno Devi Temple, is a busy hill station and a good place to enjoy the nature, which is always in its full bloom. With all its beauty at a hill station, it is a charming plateau at 2, 024m. The grassland is surrounded by dense woods and lush greenery of Pines. Picturesquely situated at a high altitude,there are many pleasant walks around this popular hill station. There are three,gushing,icecold freshwater springs in the area,which are said to have medicinal properties.

Patnitop offers pretty picnic spots, tranquil walks and breathtaking views of the mountain-scape of the Chenab river. In winter, the resort is generally covered with a thick mantle of snow, thus providing opportunities for various snow games including skiing.

Tourist attractions in Patnitop
The Naag (cobra) temple : The pride of Patnitop is its 600-year-old Naag (cobra) temple. Though small in size, it reflects the faith and reverence shared by millions of Indians all over. The evenings in Patnitop are quite cold. The mountains are covered by fog and visibility can drop to a mere 10 feet. The peak season is during the summer, though end July to August is beautiful and not crowded.

Sudh Mahadev : Sudh Mahadev is an important pilgrimage in the area. Sudh Mahadev is well known for its archaeological importance as a charming natural site. It stands on the banks of the holy Dewak River, held by some to be as sacred as the Ganges. Other temples in the city include the Gauri Kund temple, Shiva temple, Peer Khoh Cave temple, Ranbireshwar temple and the Parmandal temple complex.

Mata Vaishno Devi : It is located 61 km north of Jammu at a height of 5,200 feet above the sea level in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. In the cave there are images of three deities viz. the Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and Mahasaraswati.

Bahu Fort Temple : Situated on a rock face on the left bank of the river Tawi,this is perhaps the oldest fort and edifice in the city of Jammu.

Buddha Amarnath Temple : This is a unique Shiva Temple which is located on the foothill and not on the hilltop and secondly the Shivlinga of white stone is not self-made.

Kishtwar : Kishtwar is sited on a plateau above the Chenab River and below the Nagin Sheer glacier. It is popular for the fine saffron grown in the area and for the many waterfalls close by.

Mubarak Mandi Palace : The architecture of this palace is blend of Rajasthani, Mughal and even Baroque European influences. The most stunning segment is the Sheesh Mahal.

Raghunath Temple : Situated in the heart of the city and surrounded by a group of other temples, this temple, dedicated to Lord Rama is outstanding and unique in Northern India.

What to do in Patnitop

Apart from the scenic beauty of the place, there are various sports that you can enjoy in Patnitop.

Skiing: During the winter months of January and February, introductory skiing courses are conducted at Patnitop. At Madhatop (5/6 Kms from Patnitop on Sanasar Road) great possibilities for all kind of skiing are available. Skiers can available accommodation in Huts of JKTDC at Patnitop, KUD and Sanasar Private Hotels.

Aero sport: Paragliding is an important aero sport practiced in Patnitop. May-June and September- October are best for paragliding. Other aero sports like Parasailing and Hot air ballooning will also be practiced shortly.

Trekking: A variety of trekking options are available in this region especially during the summer months when all the trekking routes are open. It is a good starting place for any long and short treks. You can take a one day walk to Shiva Garh, about 11-km from Patnitop which is about 3,500m high. The Sundarani- Jungal Gali-Jasarkote-Sanasar route in Jangal Gali area offers three exciting trekking options. The complete tourist range covers Jammu-Katra-Vaishno Deviji, Kud-Sanasar, Patnitop-Gourikund, Sudmahadev, Mantali, extending upto Latti-Dhuna. You can hire trekking equipments like tents, carry mats, sleeping bags, jackets, windcheaters, rucksacks, carry mats, from tourism shops of Jammu and Kud.

Golf : you can also visit Sanasar, which is located at a distance of seventeen kilometres from the town of Patnitop. This place is very famous for the paragliding base that is located here. Golf courses are also present in the region, and there are options aplenty for sightseeing and having fun.

Best time to visit Patnitop
Although Patnitop is an ‘anytime’ place,the best time for a visit are summer,during May-June,and autumn,September-October. If seeking snowboard joys,December to March is the time to be here.
