Places to visit in Barot

If you are an ardent traveler and wish to explore or unravel nature’s beauty, visiting Barot would be a perfect destination. Barot is a small hamlet nestled among the valley of Mandi District in Himachal Pradesh. This scenic destination looks mesmerizing, untouched and splendid. The village is popular for various adventure activities and it has several trekking trails to offer to the visitors.

A very few travelers know about this hidden gem and its unexploited landscapes. The village of Barot came into the spotlight when the government proposed a hydroelectric project in 1920. It was due to the high potential of River Uhl the village became famous and now it is considered as one of the most popular tourist destinations.

Though the village is minuscule in size but it is blessed by nature in several ways. Encompassed by dense forests and trees of deodar and oak, the region boasts of rich flora and fauna.  The tourists can stroll across this region or experience the extreme tranquility in this area.

Valley around River Uhl- The valley around River Ulh serves as a rockbed for adventure activities. The people who are into adventure can come here to experience several adventurous activities. Starting from rock climbing to rappelling to trekking, the place offers a host of adventurous activities. The beauty of this place cannot be described in words but it can be comprehended by visiting this destination.  The trails in the valley serve as a trekking spot. Both novice and advanced trekkers can camp into the forest to enjoy nature’s beauty. River crossing is a perfect activity that adventure travelers can opt for. There are several team member activities that travelers can endorse for.

Swimming in pristine water is another activity that travellers can resort to. There is a place called Bir Billing which is situated 2 kms away from the village, and is famous for paragliding activities to explore the Himalayan peak. The expedition lasts for 15-30 minutes with an experienced instructor who accompanies the trekkers.

Fishing at River Uhl- This is another activity that tourist can resort to. The fishing in the Uhl river is famous. A trout breeding centre makes it an ideal spot for angling.

Wild Life Sanctuary- Across the river, there is a wild life sanctuary which serves to be a great picnic spot for people of all ages. In this wild life sanctuary, one can spot various wild animals including bears, deer, etc. The place boasts of a variety of flora and fauna and it is better to stay away from dense parts of the region because it is home to wild animals.

Trekking- there are several trekking expeditions in Barot that is popular for trekking. One among the most famous trekking expedition spot apart from the above-mentioned is the Barot Himri Trek that is situated along with Mule Trail which is popular. During the winters, it becomes a famous spot for snow trekking.

Corporate camping- The camping across the river Uhl is another tourist attraction that one can go for with family or with corporate friends. It is an ideal way to rejuvenate yourself from daily monotonous routine or to unleash new energy levels.

Star Gazers– Leisure travellers can resort to this activity. The travellers who are not into adventure and are fond of nature’s beauty can get into this life time experience. Since this village is situated very far away from the city’s hustle and bustle, astronomers and star gazers frequently visit this site for this activity.
