Places to visit in Dehradun

Dehradun is the capital of Uttarakhand which is very famous because of its tourist attraction. It is situated in the Garhwal area. It is popular among tourist of abroad and India. It has very good climatic conditions even in summer which is very good for the tourists and it has many natural attractions like Ganga and Yamuna River which are considered very pure rivers.

It is also known as Doon valley, it is situated in between Shivalik range and the Himalayas. It is also famous for its highly acclaimed institutes like the Survey of India, Geological Survey of India, Anthropological Survey of India, Zoological Survey of India, Rashtriya Indian Military College, Indian Institute of Petroleum, Wildlife Institute of India, Indian Military Academy and Indian Institute of Remote Sensing. Here is the list of the places in Dehradun which should be seen must and they are:

Tapkeshwar Temple
It is a very great place to visit; it is an ancient cave temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It has a seasonal river which enters the cave through the ceiling; this scene is very charming for the tourists.

Tapovan
It is lying on the banks of the Ganga River, it is known to be the penace ground for the famous saint Dronacharya and it is now becoming a holy ground for many saints and sages. These saints and sages do their religious practices and take part in many ceremonial activities.

Robber’s Cave

This cave is also one of the most visited tourist attractions in Dehradun. Robber’s Cave is also known as Guchu Pani or Guchhipani. Here you can enjoy every moment of your time, it is a very good place for a picnic. This cave is surrounded by other cave which makes it more attractive. Panoramic views can be seen from here, so it is the worth visiting place.

Forest Research Institute

This institute was founded in 1906; it is the Imperial Forest Research Centre. It is famous for its design because the architecture of this building is very unique and it is based on Greco Roman style. This institute functions under Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education department. It contains 450 hectare area and achieved the status of National Heritage. This institute is based on the research in the forestry department for various regions of India.

Dakpathar
This is a national park and also a great place for tourism point of view. This park is covered by beautiful surroundings which makes it more attractive and worth watching. The name of this park came from very famous freedom fighter Late Shri C Rajgopalachari. Khair Sissoo and Sal forest cover this park; it is the neighbor of Western Genetic plains.

Darbar Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji Maharaj

It is a very magnificent monument which is situated in the center of Dehradun and constructed in 1707. It is very important in religious and historical aspects. It got is name from Shri Guru Ram Raj Ji Maharaj who was the son of the seventh Sikh Guru. This Gurudwara attracts tourist from across the globe because of its charm.

Malsi Deer Park
It is also a great place to visit and picnic. It is located at a distance of 10 km from the main city. It is a zoological park which lies on the lower slopes of Sahaydri hills. You can find here very rare animals like horned deer, neelgai and special birds. It has got very good views which make it an ideal location to visit.

Sahastra dhara

Sahastra dhara is 11 km away from Dehradun and it is the best place for having fun and a picnic. This place attracts you because of its sparkling springs flowing down the hills with Baldi River. You can find here many waterfalls and hot springs which are quite rare to be found.

Kalanga monument
The Kalanga monument recalls the story of the bravery of an 180 year old battle between the British and the Gorkhas and represents the history of the rulers of Garhwal.

Laxman Siddh
12 Kms. Away from Dehradun towards Haridwar/Rishikesh is a famous temple known as the Laxman Siddh. Legend has it that a sage underwent penance over here. Due to easy accessibility the temple is visited by a large number of people especially on Sundays.

Tibetan Temple
Situated on Rajpur Road near the Sai Darbar Temple is a huge and colourful temple of Lord Buddha.

Lachhiwala:
Ssituated in the suburbs of the city of Dehradun where fresh water comes from a stream. At Lachiwala the stream enters into different pools which are spread over 700 mts of area. The water level is from 4ft height to 7ft in different pools.

Chandrabani
Situated 7 Kms from Dehradun on the Dehradun-Delhi road is the famous temple of Chandrabani(Gautam Kund).

Bhagirathi Resort
The Bhagirathi resort lends a breath-taking spectacle of the Himalayan ranges. The resort lures the tourists with its tranquil swimming pool, water slides and fountains.
